Childhood Stroke In The News Again!

Just thought I would share the link. It's a decent article, not the best--but it's getting the word out there, so that is good!!

Hmm, I agree it's definitely not the best article out there. I don't like how they say "most common risk factors are sickle cell disease and birth defects of the heart." Yeah, but way more than 50% of pediatric stroke survivors have no known cause at all--I think THAT's a bigger stat.

And "About 10 in every 100,000 children in the U.S. suffer a stroke in a given year." WTH did they get that stat?? Everywhere else says 1 in 3,000 to 1 in 5,000 each year. Saying basically 1 in 10,000 makes it sound like this NEVER happens. Grrrr...this article pisses me off! ;)

Oops. I deleted my previous post on accident!!!

Anyway, I actually emailed the author of the article asking where she got het statistic-- 1 in
10,000. I know I am new to the stats and what not, but I hadn't heard that one before. After reading it a few times, I decided it was a pretty bogus article. It's too bad!
